Thompson, Underwood, Rose Demand DHS Talking Points Defending Kyle Rittenhouse

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Vice Chairwoman Lauren Underwood (D-IL), and Intelligence and Counterterrorism Subcommittee Chairman Max Rose (D-NY) sent a letter to the Honorable Chad Wolf of the Department of Homeland Security demanding documents related to disturbing media reports alleging that DHS officials were directed to make public comments sympathetic to Kyle Rittenhouse, who has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, and other serious charges pertaining to the August 25 deaths of two Americans in Kenosha, Wisconsin.  President Trump also has publicly defended Mr. Rittenhouse.

“The opinions allegedly contained in the talking points distributed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) appear to mirror claims made in defense of Mr. Rittenhouse, including claims offered by his attorneys,” the lawmakers wrote.

The Members have requested all talking point related documents be sent to the Committee by October 16.
